It Burns: The Scandal-Plagued Race to Breed the World’s Hottest ChilliIt Burns: The Scandal-Plagued Race to Breed the World’s Hottest Chilli by Marc Fennell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Have you heard of Chilliheads? These people are nuts. Bonkers. Wacked in the head. Look at this, the really painful bit starts 8 minutes into it:

Delightfully silly topic. Unless, obviously, you are a chilli head. In that case this is dead serious, mate! A fun playlist is further down.

Shockingly, there are some shocking and disturbing parts in this narrative as well and not in a good way.

The mentioned Ed Currie and breeding the Carolina Reaper:

The audio talks about trolling, fraud, the mental state of chilliheads… Amazing how much drama people can create around something that does really not seem all that important.

Free from Audible, thank you! P.S.: I love the Aussie accent of the narrator. The audio was nicely dynamic, almost like a radio production. However, a few times the other speakers were not easy to understand and some of the background noises were not clear and made me wonder what was going on.

It was fun to discover something completely new to me. Unfortunately it also led to me watching youtube videos of crazy eating challenges almost all day yesterday. 🙂

Small sample playlist….

Jesus H. Christ on a motorbike. Yeah, right, not going to do that in a hurry. Laughing tears, seriously… Animals are more evolved than we are, right… lol….

Meanwhile, in England…

I was rooting for the guy on the far right… He was so nonchalant about eating those things… and then he was suffering, but soldiering on…

Can you imagine the afterburn? *shudders*

It‘s a lingerer! Mistakes were made! Lol. OMG, my cheeks are hurting from laughing so much.

This guy is certifiable!

Meanwhile, back in England…

Bon Appetit!

Messy mess!

Bob Honey Who Just Do StuffBob Honey Who Just Do Stuff by Pappy Pariah
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

What the heck did I just listen to? Dear Audible, thanks for this freebie. But OMG! Very, very weird.

Dear Sean Penn, please stick to acting and/or voice-acting, which you did very well here. But please stop writing, this was a complete and utterly undecipherable mess! Political activism, et cetera, I get it. But this was painful.

Frances McDormand, I love you! Please read me your shopping list!

Recommended: to nobody!

Not very spooky

Mrs. Zant and the GhostMrs. Zant and the Ghost by Wilkie Collins
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A classic Victorian ghost story, first published in 1885, which I got as an Audible freebie. Narrated by Gillian Anderson (X-Files).

I found it to be a pretty dull ghost story, with the stereotypical gender roles of the time.

Gillian Anderson’s narration was a bit breathy for my taste and the different characters were not terribly distinct and pretty much in the same register, regardless of situation.

It was short, it was free, it was ok.

Swords, sorcery and treasure

The Jewel of Dantenos: A Lee Starfinder Adventure from the World of The Godling Chronicles (The Godling Chronicles, #0.5)The Jewel of Dantenos: A Lee Starfinder Adventure from the World of The Godling Chronicles by Brian D. Anderson
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Short story, set in front of a so far six-book-long fantasy series. Sword and sorcery/heroic fantasy. Nothing serious or deep, just some fluff with adventuring heroes trying to retrieve some treasure. Add some swords, horses, demigods and a little magic, stir and voila.

I throughly disliked the main character and really only made it through the whole 1 hour and 52 minutes, because I was stuck on a plane without anything better to do and the audio came for free through audible.

It was ok, barely. I have no interest in picking up the series.
